The Solar Revolution in Pakistan
Pakistan faces regular electricity load-shedding and high tariffs. Solar energy offers a cost-effective alternative with payback periods of 4–6 years.
How to Calculate Your Solar Needs
Step 1: Find your monthly electricity consumption (units) on your WAPDA/LESCO bill.
Step 2: Divide by 30 to get daily consumption in kWh.
Step 3: Divide by average sun hours in your city:
- Karachi/Sindh: 6 hours
- Lahore/Punjab: 5 hours
- Islamabad/KPK: 4.5 hours
Step 4: This gives you the system capacity (kW) needed.
Solar Panel Types
- **Monocrystalline** — Most efficient (20–22%), higher cost, better in low light
- **Polycrystalline** — Good efficiency (15–17%), lower cost
- **Bifacial** — Captures light from both sides, excellent for Pakistan
Net Metering in Pakistan
NEPRA allows net metering for solar systems. Excess electricity is fed back to the grid and credited to your bill. Contact your DISCO for net metering registration.
Estimated Costs (2024)
| System Size | Cost (PKR) | Monthly Savings |
|---|---|---|
| 3 kW | 350,000–420,000 | ~5,000–8,000 |
| 5 kW | 550,000–680,000 | ~10,000–15,000 |
| 10 kW | 1,000,000–1,300,000 | ~20,000–30,000 |
